Heading West
Wow. It has been a long time since we posted. I think this is partially because our hearts and minds have been preoccupied with a decision that has been one of the most difficult of our married lives. I suppose I should start at the beginning.
Last year, at a training, the person sitting in front of me turned around and handed me his business card. It had a salary on the back. He said that he was very interested in me for a position that they had planned for their city. He was from the City of Vallejo, California. That was the first time anything like that had ever happened to me in my life. Here is the kicker. It is 15 minutes from the church that Katy and I were married in, the church that Katy had planned to go back to after graduaduation from DTS, before yours truly asked her to marry me.
Through a long process of prayer, weighing options, asking questions, learning about California State Income taxes, living expenses, housing costs, and creating an excell spreadsheet budget that we may have some hope of sticking to, we have made the decision to head west. After receiving a written offer (contingent upon me passing a physical) from the City of Vallejo, I tendered my resignation today.
I cannot begin to explain how hard that was. We have so many good friends and family here. Katy and I both have great jobs, with bosses that believe in us. We are walking into the unknown and having to have faith that God will provide. I'm sure that Katy will be posting soon, and probably have much more to tell. Please be in prayer for us as we attempt to sell a home, find housing in California, and say goodby to our friends and family here in Texas.
Thanks in advance.
